Solicitation DescriptionThe HDOT Highways is seeking letters of interest to use Transportation Alternatives (TA) federal-aid highway funding for community-based non-motorized surface transportation projects that prioritize safety, comfort, equity and connectivity to destinations for all users of our transportation networks, including pedestrians, cyclists, children, seniors, and transit-dependent.  Eligible projects include non-construction activities (e.g., programs, studies, Safe Routes to School coordinator positions, education), and construction activities (e.g., new or improved bicycle routes, sidewalks, bus stops, overlooks, viewing areas, wayfinding, traffic control). Eligible applicants include, non-profit organizations, and agencies that are responsible for managing roadways, public land, public education, and mass transit. Eligible applicants that do not have HDOT approval to receive and manage federal-aid highway funds must partner with an eligible sponsoring agency that routinely manages these funds, such as the county roadway and mass transit agencies. The program covers 80% of the project cost, and the applicant/sponsor is responsible for the remaining 20%. The federal share is paid on a reimbursable basis.
